Dear Human,
Are you feeling a bit stressed? Unhappy? Not at your best?
Then here's a game-changer for you: More gratitude.
Did you know that gratitude is scientifically proven to improve your life? It's been studied extensively in positive psychology.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to a Forbes article by Amy Morin here are gratitude benefits:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Opens doors to relationships
- Improves physical health
- Improves psychological health
- Enhances empathy and lowers aggression
- Better sleep
- Improves self esteem
- Increases mental strength
Damnnnnnnn, that's pretty f*cking incredible right?
Now you're probably wondering: Gimme some of that!
The good news is, you can actually do things to practice more gratitude.
Ways to Practice More Gratitude
As you may know, I love to mix the inspirational with the practical. So here are some exercises to help you harness more gratitude.
- Gratitude Journaling (3 Good Things)
At the end of the day before bed, reflect upon the 3 good things that went well in your day.
Write down the 3 good things. Reflect on these questions:
- Why did it go well?
- What role did you have in that?
- How did you feel?
According to a study conducted by the positive psychologist Martin Seligman, with 411 subjects, 92% became happier in 15 days. In addition, the positive effects of the exercise lasted for 6 months or longer.
- Gratitude Letter
Think about a person who has positively impacted your life, but you haven't communicated this to them before. Write a letter to them and include:
- How did they impact your life?
- How did that make you feel?
- What were the details?
- How did it impact other people as a result?
Then for an even bigger gratitude effect, share the letter with them. Or read it to them. For this one, studies also show that well-being is positively impacted even months after the activity.
Powerful huh?
